This Week’s New Releases on Netflix UK (15th February 2019)

Another week has passed and, in case you missed our social media feeds, we’re here to give you the run down on this week’s additions just in time for your weekend binge sessions. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to the streaming service in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

First up this week we have Dawn of the Planet of the Apes which sees Caesar and his fellow super-intelligent apes strike a tenuous peace with human survivors of the simian virus. A film which has been getting a lot of love on our social media channels this week is I Think We’re Alone Now an independent film set after the human race has been wiped out. Finally for films we have Netflix Original movie The Breaker Upperers from the team that brought us “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” this comedy tells the story of best friends Jen and Mel, who for the right price will end any romance.  Other notable films this week have been The Space Between UsHellboy II: The Golden Army, and Welcome Home. There’s also a new stand-up comedy special with Ken Jeong: You Complete Me, Ho.

For those of you that like watching documentaries we have Period. End of Sentence. a short Hindi language film which tells of rural India, where the stigma of menstruation persists, women make low-cost sanitary pads on a new machine and stride toward financial independence. In Behind the Curve we meet the growing, worldwide community of theorists who defend the belief that the Earth is flat while living in a society who vehemently rejects it. Whilst Louis Theroux: Dark States – Murder in Milwaukee explores the many problems plaguing Milwaukee, from extreme gun violence to distrust of police to massive racial and economic divides. If you prefer documentary series’ rather than films then we have The 43 a docuseries which disputes the Mexican government’s account of how and why 43 students from Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers’ College vanished in Iguala in 2014. Finally for documentaries, delve into the delectable world of Chaoshan cuisine, explore its unique ingredients and hear the stories of the people behind its creation in the series Flavorful Origins.

If you are looking for bingeworthy TV series’ this week then you have a choice of Dirty John – a Bravo series based on a true-crime podcast. Businesswoman Debra Newell’s life unravels when she falls for the lies and manipulation of con man John Meehan. The Umbrella Academy is an action series based on the comic books of the same name, in which estranged siblings with unique powers are reunited after their father’s death. If reality shows float your boat then The Big Family Cooking Showdown is for you, an unscripted show where families compete to be crowned Britain’s best home cooks. Finally for this week, just in time for half term we have season two of the Netflix Original series The Dragon Prince.
