This Week’s New Releases on Netflix UK (24th August 2018)

Another week has passed and, in case you missed our social media feeds, we’re here to give you the run down on this week’s additions just in time for your weekend binge sessions. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to the streaming service in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

This week has been another busy week with some great new additions to the films, TV shows and Netflix Originals. The most popular addition this week has been season 9 of the animated series Archer, which is about a suave, sophisticated spy Archer who, whilst he has the coolest gadgets, still has issues dealing with his boss, who is also his mother.  Another popular addition this week has been the teen film Divergent an adaption of the first book in the divergent series about a divided, war-torn world.

A few notable documentaries which have been added this week include the Netflix original Follow This which follows the reporters at BuzzFeed as they probe topics ranging from quirky internet crazes to safe injection spaces for opioid users. We have also seen the colourful documentary The Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe which explores the origins and impact of He-Man, a character whose power stretched well beyond a toy line and children’s TV show.

There have been 21 films added this week including the critically acclaimed Hindi film Pad Man – the story of an entrepreneur who, despite resistance, markets a hygienic, low-cost sanitary pad that even India’s poorest women can afford. With jump scares aplenty, Selfie From Hell sees a young woman venture into the dark side of the web to find out why her mysterious vlogger cousin has suddenly become gravely sick. Whilst Jigsaw with strong bloody violence and injury detail, tells the story of a string of murders around town shocking investigators when all the evidence points to a serial killer who’s been dead for years.

The binge-worthy TV series’ that have been added this week are Great News, a US comedy about a TV news producer’s ambitions which take an awkward turn when her mother rejoins the workforce and snags a job as the station’s newest intern; Indian mini-series GHOUL, where a new prisoner at a military detention centre, exhibits eerie behaviour, a young interrogator searches for the truth and battles for survival; Take My Brother Away is Chinese series about bickering siblings Shi Miao and Shi Fen who tackle friendship matters, school drama and the pitfalls of growing up with little parental supervision; And Netflix original The Innocents is a new series about runaway teen lovers June and Harry who find themselves swept up in a dangerous and confusing new world when June begins to display mysterious abilities.

For younger viewers this week we have The Secret Life of Pets, from the studio that brought us the Minion films – think Toy Story but with pets. There are also new series’ of the Netflix Originals Ask the StoryBots and Trolls: The Beat Goes On!
