This Week’s New Releases on Netflix UK (26th July 2019)

Another week has passed and, in case you missed our social media feeds, we’re here to give you the run down on this week’s additions just in time for your weekend binge sessions. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to the streaming service in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

The most popular addition this week is a brand new documentary called The Great Hack which tells the story of the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica scandal. In early 2018 it was revealed that Cambridge Analytica had exploited the personal data of millions of Facebook users – without their knowledge or consent – and used them for political propaganda during the 2016 US Presidential elections. At just under 2 hours, however, it may seem like a daunting watch.

For films this week we have a number of additions such as the crime film American Made, starring Tom Cruise, which follows a drug-smuggling ring for Pablo Escobar that is facilitated by a government informer. The Accountant follows a gifted mathematician who is also a highly skilled assassin; things start to get more interesting when he finds a company that can make use of both of his skills. Ridley Scott’s Biblical action film Exodus: Gods and Kings returned to Netflix UK this week and tells the story of Moses who frees his people from slavery in Egypt.

We have a number of highly-rated foreign-language films this week too including the French comedy/horror Girls With Balls which sees a female volleyball team fighting off a team of cannibals after their bus breaks down in a forest. The Bullet Vanishes is a Mandarin film set in the 1930’s that follows two investigators trying to find out why workers in a bullet factory perish mysteriously. And, finally for new films on Netflix UK this week, we have Eerie – a Filipino supernatural horror that sees a clairvoyant guidance counsellor dealing with a ghost to find out why a student committed suicide.

For TV we have the seventh and final series of Orange Is the New Black – one of Netflix’s oldest Original series. The show initially followed Piper Chapman as she is sent to an all-female prison for some historical drug-related crimes. Over the years, however, Chapman has become a smaller character and the show concentrates on the lives of many fellow inmates as they adjust to change in the wake of a massive prison riot in Season 5. Another ‘final season’ added to Netflix this week is season 5 of Gotham – set as a prequel to Batman and telling the story of a young Bruce Wayne as he slowly becomes the Dark Knight and Detective Jim Gordon becomes the Commissioner that comic book fans have known for years. A new Netflix Original series has been added this week that has, so far, had some fairly polarising reviews. Another Life is a sci-fi drama series that sees an interstellar mission to track down the source of a massive alien artifact that landed on Earth.

For driving fans we also have the latest from the BBC’s popular car-themed show: Series 26 of Top Gear and series 4 of the companion show Extra Gear are now streaming on Netflix UK.

For the younger viewers Despicable Me 2, which was recently removed, is now available again and there is also the Bible-themed animated film Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie.
