This Week’s New Releases on Netflix UK (2nd August 2019)

Another week has passed and, in case you missed our social media feeds, we’re here to give you the run down on this week’s additions just in time for your weekend binge sessions. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to the streaming service in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

For films this week we have a god selection of genres, some new films as well as some classics. Blindspotting has been a popular addition this week and is a crime/comedy/drama film that follows ex-convict Colin. He has just a few days left of his probation period but his lifelong best friend, and his home city of Oakland, don’t make that easy for him. Spotlight, which stars Mark Ruffalo and Michael Keaton, is a fact-based film that sees a team of reporters and editors at the Boston Globe investigating a shocking child molestation cover-up by the Catholic Church. Political thriller Valkyrie is worth adding to your watch list – set in World War II, an injured Nazi colonel hatches a daring plan to create a shadow government and assassinate Adolf Hitler. Chris Evans (Captain America, not The Big Breakfast) stars in a new Netflix Original film The Red Sea Diving Resort. Inspired by true events, the film follows undercover agents who open up a fake hotel to real tourists as a cover to help smuggle thousands of Ethiopian refugees to safety.

There are even more films to recommend this week so let’s carry on! If you like quirky independent films then you are sure to appreciate Safety Not Guaranteed in which a team of journalists respond to an advert in a local paper from a man looking for volunteers to test his time machine. For comedies there are a few to choose from including the great sci-fi comedy Mars Attacks!, the classic Roxanne, and the western comedy City Slickers. Other films of note this week include Rocky-themed film Creed, the British sci-fi drama Ex Machina and the Oscar winning The King’s Speech.

For TV we have season 1 of the makeover show 100% Hotter which aims to transform some of Britain’s biggest fashion disasters into something more…. acceptable. Australian comedy series The Letdown has returned with it’s second season and continues to tell the story of new mum Audrey. For anime fans there is a new Netflix Original series KENGAN ASHURA which is set in a hidden world where corporate disputes are settled in brutal gladiator bouts. And finally for TV this week there is season 3 of Netflix Original Dear White People – this tongue-in-cheek comedy series follows a group of students of colour in a predominantly white Ivy League college.

For children and families this week there are a few additions including the 2014 remake of the musical Annie, the amusing Paul Blart: Mall Cop, the animated Two By Two, season 3 of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and Cartoon Network’s very own Johnny Test.
