This Week’s New Releases on Netflix UK (5th April 2019)

Another week has passed and, in case you missed our social media feeds, we’re here to give you the run down on this week’s additions just in time for your weekend binge sessions. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to the streaming service in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

As we’ve hit the start of a new month we’ve had a lot of additions – nearly 100 in fact! So, let’s not waste any time here and get on with our rundown of new additions. The most popular addition this week has been the 80’s action film Road House starring Patrick Swayze as a bouncer and martial arts expert. Other popular action films this week include the Roman-themed Gladiator and the sci-fi adventure Battle: Los Angeles. If you prefer drama then there is the hard hitting social drama Detroit which looks at deaths of three African American men at the hands of Detroit police in 1967 or, a bit closer to home, is Black ’47 – set during the Irish famine in 1847. The modern classic Cruel Intentions has returned to Netflix UK this week and Blue Velvet is also worth watching if you like a good old steamy thriller. For something a bit lighter there is music-themed comedy/drama Hearts Beat Loud.

For those who like horror and thriller films then there are a few additions – most notably the British Netflix film The Ritual which follows a group of adults as they head to Sweden on a hiking trip in memory of their late friend. Things don’t quite go as they planned though… Lights Out is a supernatural horror featuring a spirit that kills its victims in the dark and Lupt is a Bollywood film about a man who has haunting visions while on a family vacation.

If you love a laugh there are plenty of new comedy films on Netflix UK this week. First up is Unicorn Store – a comedy/drama starring Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson where a painter goes on a mission to adopt a unicorn. Romantic comedy 50 First Dates sees Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore start their relationship again every day due to her lack of short-term memory. Other comedy films added to Netflix UK this week include Seth Rogen’s apocalyptic black comedy This Is the End as well as The Spy Who Dumped Me, Hall Pass and Step Brothers.

There have been some great TV shows added this week and the two biggest are Part 2 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – Netflix’s take on the Archie comics that inspired the 90s kids show; and Netflix’s first natural history show Our Planet – filmed over 4 years and narrated by Sir David Attenborough. Season 4 of zombie show Z Nation has arrived along with the return of the BBC drama Top of the Lake. Season 2 of the BBC show Doctor Foster has also been added along with the 3rd season of Canadian sitcom Kim’s Convenience. A new Swedish Netflix Original Quicksand follows the aftermath of a tragedy in a school that results in a seemingly well-adjusted teen on trial for murder.

Anime fans have a number of new shows to keep them busy starting with the new Netflix Original Ultraman which brings the classic characters back to life in the modern world. Other anime series added this week include Guilty Crown, Puella Magi Madoka Magica and season 1 and 2 of Fate/Zero.

And finally for families and kids we have the return of the 80’s classic musical Annie as well as the cat-themed Nine Lives which sees a work-obsessed boss trapped inside the mind of a cat he buys for his daughter’s birthday. For older kids there is Goosebumps based on the books by R.L. Stine and starring Jack Black; there is also the amusing biopic of Britain’s most famous ski-jumper in Eddie the Eagle. For kids TV there are some more seasons of Peppa Pig as well as season 8 of the Netflix animation Spirit Riding Free.
