This Week’s New Releases on Netflix UK (7th June 2019)

Another week has passed and, in case you missed our social media feeds, we’re here to give you the run down on this week’s additions just in time for your weekend binge sessions. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to the streaming service in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

The first week of the month has arrived and we have a great selection of new additions to choose from. The most popular film added this week has been Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming which is set after the events of Civil War and sees the web-slinger upping his game with his new mentor Iron Man / Tony Stark. German film. If blockbuster action is your thing then you may also enjoy Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight where the Autobots must, once again, try to save Earth. Scandinavian film The Guilty (aka Den Skyldige) is a highly rated psychological thriller following a police officer who takes a call from a kidnapped woman (English subtitles available). Award winning Danish film A Royal Affair (aka En kongelig affære) is worth adding to your watch list too which sees a young queen and her secret lover trying to overthrow the mad King Christian VII of Denmark.

A couple of new Netflix Films worth a look include I Am Mother – a sci-fi film about a teen who is raised by a robot mother after humanity’s mass extinction only to have their worlds turned upside down when she discovers another human; as well as Elisa & Marcela which tells the story of a Spanish woman in 1901 who takes on a male identity in order to marry the woman she loves. Other movie additions worth taking a look at include the 80s martial arts classic Revenge of the Ninja; the late-night comedy Horrible Bosses; and the teen comedy film Departures.

For TV we have some great new updates including the new reboot/sequel series to Tales of the City which sees Mary Ann Singleton reunites with the community of characters at 28 Barbary Lane. Season 2 of the now cancelled SyFy series Happy! continues to follow your favourite hitman and your favourite blue flying unicorn. If you like dark, foreboding series about the dangers of technology then look no further than Black Mirror – with season 5 bringing us three more tales of techno-fear. In other joyful additions we have season 3 of Brazilian dystopian series 3% where people have just one attempt to join the elite 3% on their own private island. Keifer Sutherland returns to his role in Designated Survivor season 3 – the series’ first outing as a Netflix Original. And finally for something a bit more laid back there is the second season of Baby Ballroom which follows a number of young ballroom dancers as they compete around the UK.

If you enjoy a good documentary then there are a few additions for you this week. First up is The Push which follows Grant Korgan, paralysed in a snowmobile accident, become the first person to push himself to the South Pole. Last Breath tells the story of a diver who runs out of oxygen and has to save himself due to their being no time to get a rescue team. Musical documentary Satan & Adam shows an aging blues guitarist and a grad student form an unlikely duo while busking on the street corners of 1980s Harlem, New York.

For family friendly additions this week we have a few films and TV series. New Netflix Original animated film Pachamama about a spirited boy who dreams of becoming a shaman in order to recover a sacred statue that was stolen from his village. In Despicable Me 3 we see Gru discover his long lost twin brother – but all is not as it seems. This week has seen the return of the classic family adventure film Jumanji starring the late, great Robin Williams as well as an early start for Christmas films with How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Children’s TV includes Littlest Pet Shop: A World of Our Own, a LEGO City series and season 1 of LEGO Friends: Girls on a Mission.
