Top Picks From This Week’s New Additions on Netflix UK (11th – 17th September 2021)

If you want to know what to watch this weekend then we’re here to give you the lowdown on this week’s biggest and best film, TV and documentary additions on Netflix UK. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to Netflix in the UK in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

The top film addition this week has been the crime film Man on Fire about a jaded ex-CIA operative who reluctantly accepts a job as the bodyguard for a 10-year-old girl in Mexico City and will stop at nothing when she’s kidnapped. Continuing the crime theme we have Rise of the Krays and its sequel Fall of the Krays which tell the story of twins Reggie and Ronnie Kray who, in the 1960s and 70s were two of London’s most feared criminals. Set in 1820, The Revenant tells the story of a fur trapper and his struggle for survival to exact retribution against a ruthless mercenary who left him to die along the Missouri River.

A peculiar addition this week has been the 1980s British comedy/slasher Bloodbath At The House Of Death where six scientists face batty situations and cheesy satanic priests as they bumble through a manor where 18 people were mysteriously killed one night. Robot Overlords is another British film – this time a sci-fi adventure. Set in a future where Earth has been conquered by robots from a distant galaxy, a young man joins a resistance movement to combat the invaders. Sticking with sci-fi, albeit a romcom, we also have Time After Time about a teenage physics genius travels back in time to fix his relationship after being dumped by the girl he loves. Finally for films we have the mystery thriller Along Came a Spider which follows detective and psychologist Alex Cross who joins a disgraced Secret Service agent in order to find a senator’s daughter who was abducted from an exclusive prep school.

For TV this week we have new series for a number of existing shows as well as some new additions. First up we have the fifth and final season of Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father where the comedian travels to different UK destinations with his father while offering up an amusing commentary along the way. Season 3 of the Netflix Original Sex Education has arrived today and continues to tell the story of Otis and his sex-advice service as well as following the stories of various teens and their sexual-awakening. Animated sci-fi comedy Final Space is back for season 3 and follows Gary and his planet-destroying sidekick Mooncake on their adventures through space. Korean thriller Squid Game pits hundreds of cash-strapped people against each other in a series of childhood games that result in death should you lose… We also have a new adult-animated comedy series Chicago Party Aunt about an idolised troublemaker whose nephew comes to join him in Chicago where hilarity and calamity obviously ensue. Finally for TV this week we have the Channel 4 mini-series Kiri which tells the story of the death of a vulnerable young foster child in Bristol which sends ripples through the community and raises questions about blame, guilt and innocence.

For documentaries this week we have Schumacher which takes an intimate look at the life of Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher. There is also Spandex Sapiens which documents the issues faced by trans wrestler Jessica Love. Finally for documentaries we have the German film Sharks: Monster Of The Media about sharks and how they are often negatively portrayed.

For families and younger viewers this week we have a new Netflix Film Nightbooks which tells the story of a boy trapped by a witch who must tell her a scary story every night in order to stay alive. A new CGI-animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has also been added this week along with a brand new interactive film: You vs. Wild: Out Cold where you must help Bear Grylls survive after his plane crashes.
